Safe Voices / Director of Development & Engagement
March 2022 - PRESENT, Lewiston, Maine
At Safe Voices, a domestic violence resource center, I serve as the primary fundraising contact as well as coordinate all PR and communications. This work is undertaken by a team of three (including myself), working toward an annual fundraising goal of approximately $550,000 through private gifts, events, and foundation relationships, as well as an additional $2M portfolio in large grants and DHHS funding. In my position with Safe Voices, I:
Helped shepherd the agency’s $1.5M capital campaign, which had been started in FY 2020-21, over the finish line.
Led a team that increased gifts from $709K in FY23 (my first full year) to $672K in the first seven months of FY24.
Initiated a new annual fundraising event in the agency’s Grown-Up Book Fair, which brought in $15,000 with an investment of under $1,000.
Communications needs include the management of all channels for the agency (email, social media, mail, public/media relations, etc.), coordinating response to media inquiries and cultivating relationships with members of the media to develop and place stories, increase coverage, and educate about domestic abuse and sex trafficking to make their coverage as appropriate as possible. This work also regularly includes crisis response work when the agency’s catchment area experiences a DV-related homicide. I also serve as a member of the agency’s four-person leadership team, which is made up of three directors and the agency’s Executive Director, and therefore take part in strategic planning and agency decision making.
